David Wilson

Drummer

I first started "drumming" when I was only eight years old (Well hitting a tea chest with a stick). A friend of ours later leant me a snare drum and cymbal. I got my first drum kit when I was nine years old.

I remember doing our first gig at the age of nine (half hour slot).  I was very nervous and unsure how we were going to fill half an hour with our only eight songs. (I think we had to repeat a couple)

My main influence when I was younger was Slim Jim Phantom, the drummer of the Straycats.  This is where the idea of standing whilst playing the drums comes from.  My influences now are people like Joey Jordison (Slipknot), Lars Ulrich (Metallica), Dennis Chambers and of course I love some of the old legends such as Gene Crooper and Buddy Rich.

The drumkit I use for gigging is a white five piece Ludwig kit.  I use a Tama HP200TW Double Bass Drum Pedal.  The cymbals I use are a 20” Zildjian Ride cymbal, 16” Paiste PST3 Crash cymbal plus a 14” Zildjian ZBT High-Hat.  Also I use any cheap 16” Crash cymbal I can get my hands on to set fire to!

I also have a Roland TD6 electric kit which is perfect for practicing and sounds great on home recordings.

I like a massive variety of styles of music, it would probably be easier to list what I don’t like.  Obviously I love Rockabilly, psychobilly, Rock, Heavy Metal, Classical, Blues, Western Swing, Indie, Soul, Motown, Country.  There isn’t much I don’t like.  Basically if it’s played well I like it!

Other interests:  I love motorcycles.  I own a Honda Firestorm identical to Ian’s only mine is in red (please note that I bought mine first, Hahaha!)  I regularly take it out for a ride depending on the weather.

I have a large interest in computers.  I took a BTEC National Diploma in computers at college.

Another interest I have (not very Rock ‘n’ Roll) is Astronomy.

Music is what I love, I feel honored to be able to do what I love and earn a wage from it.  After about 12 years of playing in different pubs, clubs and festivals all over the country and abroad, I would like to go that step further and get a recording contract.
